Narrative:

IFR flight plan mem direct yyz. ZOB gave us a crossing restr of 30 mi south of yxu VOR at FL290. We set FL290 in the altitude window and put a point 30 mi south of yxv at FL290 in the FMS. We subsequently had to go around a buildup and ZOB told us when clear of the WX proceed direct yxu. Since we had deviated around the WX, our point 30 mi south of yxu didn't apply now. The captain asked me to watch him insert another point to see if he did it correctly. I had also scaled down the navigation display range to watch the WX. We both lost track of our distance from yxv. ZOB told us to start down now and we both realized how close we were to our crossing restr point. The captain went to level change, extended the speed brakes but left the speed in KTS (which didn't help). We missed our crossing by 1000 ft at 30 mi and were level at FL290 at 28 mi south of yxv. Center didn't say anything. Bottom line, fly the airplane and don't get distracted by the electric stuff.

Title: THE DISTR OF WX DEV LEADS TO MISSING A PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED XING RESTR S OF YXU.

Narrative: IFR FLT PLAN MEM DIRECT YYZ. ZOB GAVE US A XING RESTR OF 30 MI S OF YXU VOR AT FL290. WE SET FL290 IN THE ALT WINDOW AND PUT A POINT 30 MI S OF YXV AT FL290 IN THE FMS. WE SUBSEQUENTLY HAD TO GO AROUND A BUILDUP AND ZOB TOLD US WHEN CLR OF THE WX PROCEED DIRECT YXU. SINCE WE HAD DEVIATED AROUND THE WX, OUR POINT 30 MI S OF YXU DIDN'T APPLY NOW. THE CAPT ASKED ME TO WATCH HIM INSERT ANOTHER POINT TO SEE IF HE DID IT CORRECTLY. I HAD ALSO SCALED DOWN THE NAV DISPLAY RANGE TO WATCH THE WX. WE BOTH LOST TRACK OF OUR DISTANCE FROM YXV. ZOB TOLD US TO START DOWN NOW AND WE BOTH REALIZED HOW CLOSE WE WERE TO OUR XING RESTR POINT. THE CAPT WENT TO LEVEL CHANGE, EXTENDED THE SPD BRAKES BUT LEFT THE SPD IN KTS (WHICH DIDN'T HELP). WE MISSED OUR XING BY 1000 FT AT 30 MI AND WERE LEVEL AT FL290 AT 28 MI S OF YXV. CTR DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING. BOTTOM LINE, FLY THE AIRPLANE AND DON'T GET DISTRACTED BY THE ELECTRIC STUFF.
