Narrative:

Pre solo student instruction, simulated engine out. Power reduced on down wind. I allowed student to proceed past point of airspeed and altitude for safe landing. Take over and power application was not in time to make recovery. Landing was wide of runway and resulting bounce and recovery were exciting. A better awareness of altitude and airspeed would have prevented this embarrassing and potentially dangerous situation.
