Narrative:

We had been conducting ag operations in an air tractor aircraft X all morning from artesia, using runway 21. We used the unicom 122.8, and after the FBO opened obtained traffic advisories from them. At about XA00, I taxied out for runway 21. I had a heavily loaded ag plane. I heard one plane, aircraft Y, reports final on a cross runway 12, and watched him land. I announced that I was departing on 21. When I got the tail up I looked around, and saw a light twin just landing on 12. I estimated that we would meet at the intersection of 21 and 12. I aborted the takeoff and used heavy braking. The right hand brake overheated and faded, and the plane ran off the runway on the left side into the pasture. I kept it straight and stopped just after I got onto runway 12, about 500 ft from the intersection. At that time the twin was moving slowly about to exit the runway normally at the intersection. I then heard the pilot of the twin on the radio complaining about 'the crop duster.' I taxied back to the ramp, and discussed the incident with the pilot. He was very upset, and his attitude reflected this. He said that he made several calls on unicom, and that he never heard any call from us. We tested the radio against a handheld and against the FBO unicom and it checked ok. No damage to either plane, except for replacing the brake pads on our plane. I estimated the separation as 750 ft. I estimate the risk of collision, without the avoiding action, as very high. I suspect that the cause of the incident was some interruption in radio communication, coupled with a lack of visual traffic checking by both pilots. Our corrective action will be to get the radio checked out, and to increase our traffic scanning before takeoff.

Title: CRITICAL GND CONFLICT ON UNCTLED ARPT WHEREIN A CROP DUSTER WAS TAKING OFF ON ONE RWY AND A LIGHT TWIN WAS LANDING ON A CROSS RWY. THE CROP DUSTER ABORTED TKOF AND LOST DIRECTIONAL CTL WHEN THE RIGHT BRAKE GAVE OUT AND THE ACFT VEERED OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RWY.

Narrative: WE HAD BEEN CONDUCTING AG OPERATIONS IN AN AIR TRACTOR ACFT X ALL MORNING FROM ARTESIA, USING RWY 21. WE USED THE UNICOM 122.8, AND AFTER THE FBO OPENED OBTAINED TFC ADVISORIES FROM THEM. AT ABOUT XA00, I TAXIED OUT FOR RWY 21. I HAD A HEAVILY LOADED AG PLANE. I HEARD ONE PLANE, ACFT Y, REPORTS FINAL ON A CROSS RWY 12, AND WATCHED HIM LAND. I ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS DEPARTING ON 21. WHEN I GOT THE TAIL UP I LOOKED AROUND, AND SAW A LIGHT TWIN JUST LANDING ON 12. I ESTIMATED THAT WE WOULD MEET AT THE INTERSECTION OF 21 AND 12. I ABORTED THE TKOF AND USED HEAVY BRAKING. THE R HAND BRAKE OVERHEATED AND FADED, AND THE PLANE RAN OFF THE RWY ON THE LEFT SIDE INTO THE PASTURE. I KEPT IT STRAIGHT AND STOPPED JUST AFTER I GOT ONTO RWY 12, ABOUT 500 FT FROM THE INTERSECTION. AT THAT TIME THE TWIN WAS MOVING SLOWLY ABOUT TO EXIT THE RWY NORMALLY AT THE INTERSECTION. I THEN HEARD THE PLT OF THE TWIN ON THE RADIO COMPLAINING ABOUT 'THE CROP DUSTER.' I TAXIED BACK TO THE RAMP, AND DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT WITH THE PLT. I SUSPECT THAT THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT WAS SOME INTERRUPTION IN RADIO COMMUNICATION, COUPLED WITH A LACK OF VISUAL TFC CHECKING BY BOTH PLTS. OUR CORRECTIVE ACTION WILL BE TO GET THE RADIO CHECKED OUT, AND TO INCREASE OUR TFC SCANNING BEFORE TKOF.
