Narrative:

While on duty, I was asked to taxi a B757 cargo aircraft from the hangar maintenance area to the air cargo facility. While I received clear instructions from the tower and my read back was correct, the aircraft I was riding right seat in proceeded to take a wrong turn on to an active runway with aircraft on final approach. Although no loss of separation was recorded a runway incursion had occurred. In retrospect, both persons taxiing the aircraft and the person operating the radios agree they thought they were in the correct position and continued with what they perceived as the correct route. Both members were experienced and well acquainted with the airfield and the equipment that was being taxied. It shall be noted that the time of occurrence was just after dusk, existing signs and pavement markings at involved taxiway are in question and I will attempt to call as such to local authorities. I will also question control tower's lack of participation in attempting to cease the incursion before it started.

Title: ACR B747 MAINT PERSONNEL, WHILE REPOSITIONING THE ACFT FROM MAINT TO THE CARGO RAMP, INADVERTENTLY TAXIED ACFT ON TO AN ACTIVE RWY WHEN ANOTHER ACFT WAS ON FINAL. THERE WAS REPORTEDLY NO LOSS OF SEPARATION.

IN RETROSPECT, BOTH PERSONS TAXIING THE ACFT AND THE PERSON OPERATING THE RADIOS AGREE THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE IN THE CORRECT POSITION AND CONTINUED WITH WHAT THEY PERCEIVED AS THE CORRECT RTE. BOTH MEMBERS WERE EXPERIENCED AND WELL ACQUAINTED WITH THE AIRFIELD AND THE EQUIP THAT WAS BEING TAXIED. IT SHALL BE NOTED THAT THE TIME OF OCCURRENCE WAS JUST AFTER DUSK, EXISTING SIGNS AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS AT INVOLVED TXWY ARE IN QUESTION AND I WILL ATTEMPT TO CALL AS SUCH TO LOCAL AUTHORITIES. I WILL ALSO QUESTION CTL TWR'S LACK OF PARTICIPATION IN ATTEMPTING TO CEASE THE INCURSION BEFORE IT STARTED.
