Narrative:

On the lzard 2 arrival into tpa, we were given multiple step-down dscnts and were trying to deviate around WX with an inconsistent radar. We were finally cleared to cross marvi at 13000 ft and 250 KTS. I had originally idented marvi as ocf 185 degree radial at 53 DME because it had the D53 direct depiction on the arrival chart. Upon further review, I thought it was 23 DME but soon realized that was the segment distance from grasn and marvi. We were then given further descent to 7000 ft. I finally figured out that marvi was idented as the ocf 185 degree radial at 32 DME by subtracting the segment distance (21 DME) from the known DME at lzard (53 DME). Unfortunately, this occurred when we were already past marvi and at approximately 11000 ft. I most likely did not make the crossing restr, but I don't know. The depiction on the arrival route is great for an EFIS aircraft but is confusing for those of us who use VOR/DME. The arrival again is lzard 2 arrival dated jul/fri/01. Recommend that the specific DME for marvi be depicted on the arrival -- not just segment distances.

Title: A B732 CREW DSNDING ON STAR INTO TPA MISSED A XING RESTR.

Narrative: ON THE LZARD 2 ARR INTO TPA, WE WERE GIVEN MULTIPLE STEP-DOWN DSCNTS AND WERE TRYING TO DEVIATE AROUND WX WITH AN INCONSISTENT RADAR. WE WERE FINALLY CLRED TO CROSS MARVI AT 13000 FT AND 250 KTS. I HAD ORIGINALLY IDENTED MARVI AS OCF 185 DEG RADIAL AT 53 DME BECAUSE IT HAD THE D53 DIRECT DEPICTION ON THE ARR CHART. UPON FURTHER REVIEW, I THOUGHT IT WAS 23 DME BUT SOON REALIZED THAT WAS THE SEGMENT DISTANCE FROM GRASN AND MARVI. WE WERE THEN GIVEN FURTHER DSCNT TO 7000 FT. I FINALLY FIGURED OUT THAT MARVI WAS IDENTED AS THE OCF 185 DEG RADIAL AT 32 DME BY SUBTRACTING THE SEGMENT DISTANCE (21 DME) FROM THE KNOWN DME AT LZARD (53 DME). UNFORTUNATELY, THIS OCCURRED WHEN WE WERE ALREADY PAST MARVI AND AT APPROX 11000 FT. I MOST LIKELY DID NOT MAKE THE XING RESTR, BUT I DON'T KNOW. THE DEPICTION ON THE ARR RTE IS GREAT FOR AN EFIS ACFT BUT IS CONFUSING FOR THOSE OF US WHO USE VOR/DME. THE ARR AGAIN IS LZARD 2 ARR DATED JUL/FRI/01. RECOMMEND THAT THE SPECIFIC DME FOR MARVI BE DEPICTED ON THE ARR -- NOT JUST SEGMENT DISTANCES.
