Narrative:

Arrival dfw approach control cleared us for visual approach to runway 18R. Frequency was extremely congested. In the process of flying the approach checking for traffic that we were to follow, and completing our landing checklist we did not catch the fact that approach control did not hand us off to dfw tower. After landing we were told to contact tower by approach. It was at that time that we realized our mistake. I believe that task saturation on our part during the approach and extreme radio congestion contributed to this error of not getting landing clearance from dfw tower.

Title: MD80 CREW LWOC AT DFW.

Narrative: ARR DFW APCH CTL CLRED US FOR VISUAL APCH TO RWY 18R. FREQ WAS EXTREMELY CONGESTED. IN THE PROCESS OF FLYING THE APCH CHKING FOR TFC THAT WE WERE TO FOLLOW, AND COMPLETING OUR LNDG CHKLIST WE DID NOT CATCH THE FACT THAT APCH CTL DID NOT HAND US OFF TO DFW TWR. AFTER LNDG WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT TWR BY APCH. IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT WE REALIZED OUR MISTAKE. I BELIEVE THAT TASK SATURATION ON OUR PART DURING THE APCH AND EXTREME RADIO CONGESTION CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ERROR OF NOT GETTING LNDG CLRNC FROM DFW TWR.
