Narrative:

New york approach cleared us to descend from 16000 ft to 8000 ft. Passing approximately 13000 ft, approach told us to level off at 10000 ft due to eastbound traffic at 1 O'clock position, 9500 ft, unverified. We both began looking for traffic but were unable to make visual contact with the other aircraft. Passing approximately 11000 ft and 320 KTS, first officer selected speed 250 KTS which slowed our descent rate. Approach issued another TA at 1 O'clock but we still could not pick up the traffic. Shortly thereafter, we got a 'pop-up' red target immediately followed by 'climb 'resolution at approximately 2 O'clock position, 2 1/2 mi, 500 ft below us and climbing. First officer disconnected the autoplt and began pitching the aircraft up to the green band on the vsi. First officer continued to fly the aircraft while I tried to locate the aircraft by looking at the target on the navigation display and looking outside. I then noticed the target was now approximately 300 ft below us, so I pushed both thrust levers to toga power while saying 'toga power.' I then told approach we were responding to an RA. At this point the aircraft was climbing at approximately 3800 FPM and the target seemed to be climbing with us. We then got a TCASII 'monitor vertical speed.' we leveled off at approximately 13000 ft when clear of the conflict. I briefed the in-flight crew and the passenger on what had happened. No injuries were reported. The remainder of the flight was uneventful and completed with a successful landing.

Title: AN A320 CREW DSNDING INTO JFK RESPONDED TO A 'CLB RA' FROM TCASII.

Narrative: NEW YORK APCH CLRED US TO DSND FROM 16000 FT TO 8000 FT. PASSING APPROX 13000 FT, APCH TOLD US TO LEVEL OFF AT 10000 FT DUE TO EBOUND TFC AT 1 O'CLOCK POS, 9500 FT, UNVERIFIED. WE BOTH BEGAN LOOKING FOR TFC BUT WERE UNABLE TO MAKE VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE OTHER ACFT. PASSING APPROX 11000 FT AND 320 KTS, FO SELECTED SPD 250 KTS WHICH SLOWED OUR DSCNT RATE. APCH ISSUED ANOTHER TA AT 1 O'CLOCK BUT WE STILL COULD NOT PICK UP THE TFC. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, WE GOT A 'POP-UP' RED TARGET IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY 'CLB 'RESOLUTION AT APPROX 2 O'CLOCK POS, 2 1/2 MI, 500 FT BELOW US AND CLBING. FO DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND BEGAN PITCHING THE ACFT UP TO THE GREEN BAND ON THE VSI. FO CONTINUED TO FLY THE ACFT WHILE I TRIED TO LOCATE THE ACFT BY LOOKING AT THE TARGET ON THE NAV DISPLAY AND LOOKING OUTSIDE. I THEN NOTICED THE TARGET WAS NOW APPROX 300 FT BELOW US, SO I PUSHED BOTH THRUST LEVERS TO TOGA PWR WHILE SAYING 'TOGA PWR.' I THEN TOLD APCH WE WERE RESPONDING TO AN RA. AT THIS POINT THE ACFT WAS CLBING AT APPROX 3800 FPM AND THE TARGET SEEMED TO BE CLBING WITH US. WE THEN GOT A TCASII 'MONITOR VERT SPD.' WE LEVELED OFF AT APPROX 13000 FT WHEN CLR OF THE CONFLICT. I BRIEFED THE INFLT CREW AND THE PAX ON WHAT HAD HAPPENED. NO INJURIES WERE RPTED. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL AND COMPLETED WITH A SUCCESSFUL LNDG.
