Narrative:

I was the PNF en route from day to lga. My first officer was flying and temporarily handling communication #1 (with ATC) while I was on communication #2 talking with company. ATC issued a late descent crossing restr to cross 'vibes' intersection at 13000 ft. When I returned to communication #1, my first officer briefed on the crossing restr and advised me that he had programmed the FMS with the autoplt coupled for the crossing. I realized that the top of descent displayed on the mfd by the FMS was incorrectly plotted for our altitude. I immediately advised my first officer to initiate a descent and I informed ATC that we would be unable to cross vibes intersection at 13000 ft. We crossed vibes intersection at approximately 15500 ft.

Narrative: I WAS THE PNF ENRTE FROM DAY TO LGA. MY FO WAS FLYING AND TEMPORARILY HANDLING COM #1 (WITH ATC) WHILE I WAS ON COM #2 TALKING WITH COMPANY. ATC ISSUED A LATE DSCNT XING RESTR TO CROSS 'VIBES' INTXN AT 13000 FT. WHEN I RETURNED TO COM #1, MY FO BRIEFED ON THE XING RESTR AND ADVISED ME THAT HE HAD PROGRAMMED THE FMS WITH THE AUTOPLT COUPLED FOR THE XING. I REALIZED THAT THE TOP OF DSCNT DISPLAYED ON THE MFD BY THE FMS WAS INCORRECTLY PLOTTED FOR OUR ALT. I IMMEDIATELY ADVISED MY FO TO INITIATE A DSCNT AND I INFORMED ATC THAT WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO CROSS VIBES INTXN AT 13000 FT. WE CROSSED VIBES INTXN AT APPROX 15500 FT.
