Narrative:

I was conducting a training flight with a private pilot toward his complex aircraft chkout (he already had a high performance chkout). On landing, he flared high then took corrective action (applied power and lowered nose). He then touched down firmly on the left main with the wing canted to the left and the nose high. I took control of the aircraft and performed a go around. The pilot then made 2 successful lndgs without incident or any intervention on my part. We later discovered minor damage to the left wingtip where the wingtip had apparently contacted the runway. PF did not take corrective action to level wings at touchdown and did not initiate a go around. Earlier intervention on my part might have prevented any damage. Later intervention might have resulted in a more serious incident.

Title: A BE35 INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT EXPERIENCED A HARD UNSTABLE LNDG WITH A GAR.

Narrative: I WAS CONDUCTING A TRAINING FLT WITH A PVT PLT TOWARD HIS COMPLEX ACFT CHKOUT (HE ALREADY HAD A HIGH PERFORMANCE CHKOUT). ON LNDG, HE FLARED HIGH THEN TOOK CORRECTIVE ACTION (APPLIED PWR AND LOWERED NOSE). HE THEN TOUCHED DOWN FIRMLY ON THE L MAIN WITH THE WING CANTED TO THE L AND THE NOSE HIGH. I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND PERFORMED A GAR. THE PLT THEN MADE 2 SUCCESSFUL LNDGS WITHOUT INCIDENT OR ANY INTERVENTION ON MY PART. WE LATER DISCOVERED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE L WINGTIP WHERE THE WINGTIP HAD APPARENTLY CONTACTED THE RWY. PF DID NOT TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION TO LEVEL WINGS AT TOUCHDOWN AND DID NOT INITIATE A GAR. EARLIER INTERVENTION ON MY PART MIGHT HAVE PREVENTED ANY DAMAGE. LATER INTERVENTION MIGHT HAVE RESULTED IN A MORE SERIOUS INCIDENT.
