Narrative:

As we went into position on runway 01 in dca, the tower pointed out traffic coming up the river for landing on runway 33. This particular aircraft was about 3 mi out. We were cleared for takeoff and at about 50 KTS, the tower told us to cancel our clearance. We aborted the takeoff, noticing another turbo-propeller on short final for runway 33. Had we continued the takeoff we'd have been very close to a collision. This airport continues to be an accident waiting to happen. The most dangerous thing about it is not the physical layout, which is terrible, but that they're always trying to stuff 10 pounds of traffic into a 5 pound bags.
