Narrative:
Tried to close flight plan in air with pie FSS, but received no response. In all, several attempts were made to contact pie FSS with the same result. Upon returning to home base (ded), I was informed that search and rescue was started.

Title: PIPER PA28 COMMERCIAL FLT INSTRUCTOR DID NOT CLOSE HIS FLT PLAN IN A TIMELY MANNER SINCE HE THOUGHT HE HAD DONE SO AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THE FSS PRIOR TO LNDG.
Narrative: TRIED TO CLOSE FLT PLAN IN AIR WITH PIE FSS, BUT RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. IN ALL, SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO CONTACT PIE FSS WITH THE SAME RESULT. UPON RETURNING TO HOME BASE (DED), I WAS INFORMED THAT SEARCH AND RESCUE WAS STARTED.
