Narrative:

ATC facility: ZFW. Location: inbound to ZZZ. During cruise, we noticed left hydraulic quantity indicated 2 quarts. We proceeded with the abnormal procedure and turned off the left engine hydraulic pump. During descent, we attempted to pressurize the system in accordance with the abnormal and we were unable to. We declared an emergency at that time (approximately 120 mi from bowie). We coordinated for wry 17R and reviewed procedures for loss of left system. We made an uneventful landing and taxied in to the gate. Safety inspector in jump seat said we were thorough and did a good job. Kudos to all our air carrier flight instructors and check airmen. Maintenance opened up left cowling to find a massive hydraulic leak.
