Narrative:

Pilot requested taxi clearance and ground controller gave instructions as follows 'taxi to runway 23, hold short of C4 inbound fuel truck.' we began taxi, intending to hold short of C4 when controller asked 'are you holding short of taxiway C?' we said no, we were told to hold short of C4. The ground controller stated there is no C4, and that he had asked us 'to hold short of taxiway C, 'for' a fuel truck.' we told him of the miscom from his taxi clearance, and he said no problem, redirected the fuel truck, and directed us to continue the taxi with no further events. This miscom with the number '4' and the word 'for' must be addressed, as it has caused other accidents.

Title: GND CTLR MISLEADING PHRASEOLOGY CAUSES B727 TO INCUR TXWY AT WRONG INTXN.

Narrative: PLT REQUESTED TAXI CLRNC AND GND CTLR GAVE INSTRUCTIONS AS FOLLOWS 'TAXI TO RWY 23, HOLD SHORT OF C4 INBOUND FUEL TRUCK.' WE BEGAN TAXI, INTENDING TO HOLD SHORT OF C4 WHEN CTLR ASKED 'ARE YOU HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY C?' WE SAID NO, WE WERE TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF C4. THE GND CTLR STATED THERE IS NO C4, AND THAT HE HAD ASKED US 'TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY C, 'FOR' A FUEL TRUCK.' WE TOLD HIM OF THE MISCOM FROM HIS TAXI CLRNC, AND HE SAID NO PROB, REDIRECTED THE FUEL TRUCK, AND DIRECTED US TO CONTINUE THE TAXI WITH NO FURTHER EVENTS. THIS MISCOM WITH THE NUMBER '4' AND THE WORD 'FOR' MUST BE ADDRESSED, AS IT HAS CAUSED OTHER ACCIDENTS.
