Narrative:

Taxiing out of the north ramp at denver, we were expecting runway 17R for departure, but ground assigned us runway 17L, on taxiway left, hold short of ed. I glanced at airport diagram, first officer was changing FMC and getting new data. I was looking for the taxi sign for 'ed' and on my left saw the sign for 'cn' only. With a glance to my right, I noticed a sign for 'ed' and an arrow on the opposite side of taxiway M. By the time I rechked my chart, I had taxied across 'ed.' den ground graciously offered us runway 8 for takeoff, then so no incident is anticipated. Even now I'm not sure where taxiway cn ends and 'ed' starts. Also, the taxiway signs need to be on the captain's side.
