Narrative:

While level at 17000 ft, right #2 motor spooled back to idle, did not respond to subsequent throttle movements, no EICAS messages displayed. Elected to shut down rather than troubleshoot or depend on a potentially bad engine. Workload at the time was high, we had been cleared to pdz arrival. Engine shutdown checklist was accomplished. Cabin was prepared, notification given to ATC and company. We were cleared for ILS runway 24R from about 30 mi out, later offered and accepted runway 24L. Uneventful landing and rollout. No restart attempted due to workload throughout the arrival.
