Narrative:

We declared an emergency due to a flap asymmetry. We executed a go around at lga and received vectors while we determined the nature of the problem and ran the appropriate checklists. We eventually diverted to ewr where we made an uneventful landing and taxied to the gate. The whole system (ATC, dispatch, flight attendants) worked great.
