Narrative:

ZLC handed aircraft Y to ZDV 24 at FL370 eastbound. Next, ZLC 33 hands aircraft X to ZDV 24 at FL370 sebound. Conflict 3 mi inside sector 24 airspace. ZLC 33 had a pointout from ZLA (ZLA 32) on aircraft Y, but had to be told by ZDV 24 to turn aircraft X behind the aircraft Y. ZLC 33, having taken the pointout, had responsibility for the separation, but did not take care of it. The ZDV 24 controller had ZLC 33 turn aircraft X 40 degrees right. After aircraft X checked on, the ZDV 24 controller assigned a 170 degree heading, which resulted in about 7 mi separation. The large turn could have been prevented if ZLC 33 had started separation at the time of the pointout.
