Narrative:

En route to YYY from ZZZ about 10 mins after leveling at FL290, 260 KIAS, 8.1 ap the left (captain's) forward windshield shattered with a loud 'bang'. No pressurization loss occurred. We declared an emergency, began an immediate descent, and performed QRH abnormal procedure. We diverted to XXX for landing delayed landing in XXX about 15 mins to burn off fuel due to excess weight landed in XXX. Emergency was terminated after landing. We were towed to gate because I could not see well enough to taxi. I have learned that this has happened numerous times with other operators of the CL65. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the window failed with a loud bang. The reporter said the window was completely spider webbed and vision was restricted. The reporter stated they were unable to determine what pane had failed. The reporter said several window failures have been reported recently on the cl-65 fleet and appears to be an on-going problem.
