Narrative:

I was flying at 16500 ft for about 5-10 mins before I realized my heading was 20 degrees and I should have been cruising at 15500 ft or 17500 ft for that heading. It was a pleasure flight with no particular destination and once established in a direction (toward duluth) from the south toward the nne, I should have rechked my heading versus VFR altitude. Once noticed, I returned to the correct VFR cruising altitude for my heading.
