Narrative:

We were cleared to cross calverton VOR on an arrival at 12000 ft. Passing through 14000 ft, power at idle with full spoilers deployed (approximately rate of descent 4000 FPM). Approach redirected leveloff at 13000 ft. After realizing what he was requesting and reconfiguring aircraft, we arrested descent at approximately 12600 ft. A subsequent climb back to 13000 ft was completed. Late request by controller to level off at a higher altitude combined with the reconfiguring caused a momentary altitude deviation.

Title: AN UNTIMELY REVISED ALT CLRNC DURING DSCNT RESULTS IN AN ALT OVERSHOOT.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS CALVERTON VOR ON AN ARR AT 12000 FT. PASSING THROUGH 14000 FT, PWR AT IDLE WITH FULL SPOILERS DEPLOYED (APPROX RATE OF DSCNT 4000 FPM). APCH REDIRECTED LEVELOFF AT 13000 FT. AFTER REALIZING WHAT HE WAS REQUESTING AND RECONFIGURING ACFT, WE ARRESTED DSCNT AT APPROX 12600 FT. A SUBSEQUENT CLB BACK TO 13000 FT WAS COMPLETED. LATE REQUEST BY CTLR TO LEVEL OFF AT A HIGHER ALT COMBINED WITH THE RECONFIGURING CAUSED A MOMENTARY ALTDEV.
