Narrative:

At XC50 local time our aircraft (an EMB120) was told by the tower to taxi into position and hold. The captain called for the before takeoff check in its entirety (instead of 'above the line' and 'below the line'). The captain taxied to the displaced threshold while I performed and then read aloud the 'before takeoff check.' he then relinquished to me the controls and I stated that I had them. I then proceeded to call for takeoff power and performed a static takeoff. After reaching approximately 400 ft, the tower queried us and told us we hadn't been cleared for takeoff. At that moment we both realized our error. The tower explained he was waiting for 'men and equipment' to clear the runway and adjoining areas. Both the captain and I neglected to realize that we hadn't received the takeoff clearance though I had read back to the tower the instructions to taxi into position and hold. Factors leading to his include both of our relative lack of experience in the aircraft. I have 179 hours in type and the captain had less than 100 hours as PIC. We also had flown very little recently since we had both been reserve pilots for the last few months. Another factor was our desire to rush in order to keep schedule. Fortunately, we did not come close to any vehicles or aircraft in our deviation from the position and hold clearance.

Title: AN EMB120 FLC PERFORMS AN UNAUTH TKOF AT SUN, ID.

Narrative: AT XC50 LCL TIME OUR ACFT (AN EMB120) WAS TOLD BY THE TWR TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. THE CAPT CALLED FOR THE BEFORE TKOF CHK IN ITS ENTIRETY (INSTEAD OF 'ABOVE THE LINE' AND 'BELOW THE LINE'). THE CAPT TAXIED TO THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD WHILE I PERFORMED AND THEN READ ALOUD THE 'BEFORE TKOF CHK.' HE THEN RELINQUISHED TO ME THE CTLS AND I STATED THAT I HAD THEM. I THEN PROCEEDED TO CALL FOR TKOF PWR AND PERFORMED A STATIC TKOF. AFTER REACHING APPROX 400 FT, THE TWR QUERIED US AND TOLD US WE HADN'T BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF. AT THAT MOMENT WE BOTH REALIZED OUR ERROR. THE TWR EXPLAINED HE WAS WAITING FOR 'MEN AND EQUIP' TO CLR THE RWY AND ADJOINING AREAS. BOTH THE CAPT AND I NEGLECTED TO REALIZE THAT WE HADN'T RECEIVED THE TKOF CLRNC THOUGH I HAD READ BACK TO THE TWR THE INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. FACTORS LEADING TO HIS INCLUDE BOTH OF OUR RELATIVE LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN THE ACFT. I HAVE 179 HRS IN TYPE AND THE CAPT HAD LESS THAN 100 HRS AS PIC. WE ALSO HAD FLOWN VERY LITTLE RECENTLY SINCE WE HAD BOTH BEEN RESERVE PLTS FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS. ANOTHER FACTOR WAS OUR DESIRE TO RUSH IN ORDER TO KEEP SCHEDULE. FORTUNATELY, WE DID NOT COME CLOSE TO ANY VEHICLES OR ACFT IN OUR DEV FROM THE POS AND HOLD CLRNC.
