Narrative:

Air carrier X arrived with a write-up lower EICAS screen failed in cruise. Part X was removed from stores shelf and installed on aircraft and visual and functional check was normal. Upon filling out log sheet, discovered that the parts tag showed that it was previously removed from aircraft xyz and therefore unsvcable. (Pass part program is where a figuring that the pass parts tag was missing/lost and could be obtained later, the aircraft was released for service. When the stores clerk came back to work may/mon/01 he told me this part isn't svcable. I alerted maintenance control center in YYY who placed a correction action on aircraft.
