Narrative:

Approximately 20 NM northwest of bty VOR on J-92, ZLA instructed us to descend from FL290 to FL250. At approximately FL285 we received a TCASII RA to reduce descent, then to climb. Red TCASII target showed converging from 12 O'clock position, 500 ft below us. We responded to the RA and climbed back to FL290. ATC simultaneously issued a turn to the left, but the approaching aircraft, opposite direction at FL280, was acquired visually and we initiated a slight right turn as the aircraft passed approximately 500 ft to the left and 500 ft below us.
