Narrative:

During taxi out from jfk, we were told to follow a B737 on taxiway a to runway 31L. So I followed the B737, but didn't hear that I was supposed to hold short of taxiway H. I continued to follow the B737 as it turned onto taxiway J. Ground informed me that I was supposed to stay on taxiway a. He said it wasn't a big deal, just turn on taxiway B and hold short of taxiway H. What doesn't make sense is that there was no traffic out there, just the B737 and I. So I go way out of the way on taxiway H, and end up meeting the B737 at runway 31L anyway. I could have just stayed behind him. But in the end, I was at fault for not following taxi instructions like I was supposed to.
