Narrative:

On departure leg, frogg departure, heading 120 degrees, red light in the nose gear did not extinguish. After approximately 10-15 seconds, an aerodynamic noise was heard coming from the nosewheel area. The gear handle was still in the up position. The gear was cycled down and up with the same results. In accordance with the unsafe gear checklist, the gear was lowered and all indications were normal. Landing at sacramento runway 16L was normal. Ground personnel from the smf airport inspected the airplane and we returned to the gate. The gear was confirmed down -- the nose gear -- from the viewer in the cockpit.
