Narrative:

During climb out from sfo runway 1R, the right engine failed at 8700 ft MSL. Departure control was notified of the emergency and our desire to return to land at sfo. A smooth overweight landing was made on runway 28R sfo. All ATC communications and actions were very helpful in getting aircraft on the ground quickly. Ground emergency equipment was ready but was not needed. My aircraft was stopped on runway 28R for approximately 5 mins while inspection of engine was made. Crew consisted of 2 pilots and 5 flight attendants. Passenger load approximately 165.
