Narrative:

While cruising at FL270 about 150 mi west of rod VOR, we encountered a TCASII resolution. We responded to the resolution as directed by the TCASII by descending about 1000 ft. When clear of conflict, we returned to FL270 and reported the deviation in altitude to ZID. The controller seemed indifferent to the fact we had to leave our assigned altitude and asked for no further information.
