Engine overheat. Return to land. No other problems. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the overheat warning emergency was caused by a left engine high pressure bleed duct clamp that was found leaking. The reporter said when the engine was pulled back to idle, the overheat light went out.

Title: A B737-400 IN CLB AT 8000 FT DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO L ENG OVERHEAT WARNING CAUSED BY A LEAKING HIGH PRESSURE BLEED DUCT CLAMP.

Narrative: ENG OVERHEAT. RETURN TO LAND. NO OTHER PROBS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE OVERHEAT WARNING EMER WAS CAUSED BY A L ENG HIGH PRESSURE BLEED DUCT CLAMP THAT WAS FOUND LEAKING. THE RPTR SAID WHEN THE ENG WAS PULLED BACK TO IDLE, THE OVERHEAT LIGHT WENT OUT.
