Narrative:

Pre departure clearance and accuload were on the same paper that just came off the printer. The gate handed it to the first officer. I asked 'any changes to the route?' he replied 'nope, same routing.' the route was slightly different and we followed the flight plan routing until questioned by ATC. We were then cleared direct to the fix we were navigating to previously. Never take the other guy's word for anything. Always verify yourself.
