Narrative:

Runway 25R departure from las on the oveto 3 departure SID. Clearance was changed to right turn 070 degrees at las 4 DME rest of SID. PNF (myself) had VOR set up to las 050 degrees. PF (PF) had las in his VOR but unfortunately had the 017 degree radial set in. (See bld 017 degree radial requirement later during the departure.) PF turned north to intercept the las 017 degree radial instead of the 050 degree radial out of las. Before either of us noticed the error, las departure gave us a heading of 070 degrees initially and then 050 degree heading. We, of course, realized we had intercepted the wrong radial after receiving the heading from departure control. We were not on the las 017 degree radial for more than 20-30 seconds, but departure control said we were getting too close to nellis AFB. We approximate being 2-3 mi off course. Supplemental information from acn 500300: while flying a normal oveto 3 departure out of las, I (the first officer and PF) mistakenly intercepted the las 017 degree radial (not the proper 050 degree radial) from a proper 070 degree heading. We flew about 3 or 4 mi before las departure corrected my mistake with a new heading to intercept the 050 degree radial out of las. The cause of the problem was myself, and the corrective action shall be better attention paid upon my part during future sids.

Title: MD82 CREW HAD TRACK DEV N LAS CLASS B AIRSPACE.

Narrative: RWY 25R DEP FROM LAS ON THE OVETO 3 DEP SID. CLRNC WAS CHANGED TO R TURN 070 DEGS AT LAS 4 DME REST OF SID. PNF (MYSELF) HAD VOR SET UP TO LAS 050 DEGS. PF (PF) HAD LAS IN HIS VOR BUT UNFORTUNATELY HAD THE 017 DEG RADIAL SET IN. (SEE BLD 017 DEG RADIAL REQUIREMENT LATER DURING THE DEP.) PF TURNED N TO INTERCEPT THE LAS 017 DEG RADIAL INSTEAD OF THE 050 DEG RADIAL OUT OF LAS. BEFORE EITHER OF US NOTICED THE ERROR, LAS DEP GAVE US A HDG OF 070 DEGS INITIALLY AND THEN 050 DEG HDG. WE, OF COURSE, REALIZED WE HAD INTERCEPTED THE WRONG RADIAL AFTER RECEIVING THE HDG FROM DEP CTL. WE WERE NOT ON THE LAS 017 DEG RADIAL FOR MORE THAN 20-30 SECONDS, BUT DEP CTL SAID WE WERE GETTING TOO CLOSE TO NELLIS AFB. WE APPROXIMATE BEING 2-3 MI OFF COURSE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 500300: WHILE FLYING A NORMAL OVETO 3 DEP OUT OF LAS, I (THE FO AND PF) MISTAKENLY INTERCEPTED THE LAS 017 DEG RADIAL (NOT THE PROPER 050 DEG RADIAL) FROM A PROPER 070 DEG HDG. WE FLEW ABOUT 3 OR 4 MI BEFORE LAS DEP CORRECTED MY MISTAKE WITH A NEW HDG TO INTERCEPT THE 050 DEG RADIAL OUT OF LAS. THE CAUSE OF THE PROB WAS MYSELF, AND THE CORRECTIVE ACTION SHALL BE BETTER ATTN PAID UPON MY PART DURING FUTURE SIDS.
