Narrative:

At leveloff FL330 over cae VOR, we experienced an apparent compressor stall (loud and successive banging and surging from #2 engine). Noise stopped when throttle slightly reduced. We elected to declare an emergency and divert to land at clt. No further abnormal indications were observed.

Title: A B737-200 IN CRUISE AT FL330 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO #2 ENG SURGING WITH COMPRESSOR STALLS. CAUSE UNKNOWN.

Narrative: AT LEVELOFF FL330 OVER CAE VOR, WE EXPERIENCED AN APPARENT COMPRESSOR STALL (LOUD AND SUCCESSIVE BANGING AND SURGING FROM #2 ENG). NOISE STOPPED WHEN THROTTLE SLIGHTLY REDUCED. WE ELECTED TO DECLARE AN EMER AND DIVERT TO LAND AT CLT. NO FURTHER ABNORMAL INDICATIONS WERE OBSERVED.
