Narrative:

Encountered severe turbulence for about 1 min at FL390 .82 mach. Aircraft +/-200 ft, +/-15 KTS, 20 degree roll. Wind went from 270 degrees 145 KTS to 270 degrees 195 KTS. Did not notice change in surface air temperature. Aircraft on autoplt and autothrust and handled it well. Descended to FL370, out of FL380, it was almost smooth. No passenger injuries reported. 3 minor flight attendant injuries -- bruises only. Flight attendants were seen by doctor in frankfurt, germany. Maintenance in frankfurt was advised, also our dispatcher and moncton center. Light turbulence had been reported in the area, the seatbelt sign was on, and I had made 2 announcements warning of light turbulence.

DID NOT NOTICE CHANGE IN SURFACE AIR TEMP. ACFT ON AUTOPLT AND AUTOTHRUST AND HANDLED IT WELL. DSNDED TO FL370, OUT OF FL380, IT WAS ALMOST SMOOTH. NO PAX INJURIES RPTED. 3 MINOR FLT ATTENDANT INJURIES -- BRUISES ONLY. FLT ATTENDANTS WERE SEEN BY DOCTOR IN FRANKFURT, GERMANY. MAINT IN FRANKFURT WAS ADVISED, ALSO OUR DISPATCHER AND MONCTON CTR. LIGHT TURB HAD BEEN RPTED IN THE AREA, THE SEATBELT SIGN WAS ON, AND I HAD MADE 2 ANNOUNCEMENTS WARNING OF LIGHT TURB.
