Narrative:

The captain chose not to wear headsets. This created a difficult communication situation. The aircraft was level at FL310, our planned cruise altitude. ZMP asked us to climb to FL320. This was set in the altitude selector and I thought confirmed. We began our climb. Next, center asked us for a turn to a heading of 320 degrees. We turned. As we climbed through FL314, ZMP noted our climb through FL310. We stopped the climb and returned to FL310. We were then cleared back on course from our vector of 320 degrees. There were no conflicts created.
