Narrative:
Altimeter of ATIS at ptk was reported as 30.40 and I mistakenly set 30.04 which caused me to be too high when told to maintain 5000 ft, upon the controller inquiry, I reset altimeter correctly. Mistake was made by not rechking myself prior to departure of all pertinent items -- altimeters, route, etc.
