Narrative:

As part of his BFR, student pilot requested some work at a controled field to brush up on radio communications. Leaving tlh, we were cleared to 'taxi into position and hold.' the student misunderstood and when he saw the landing traffic clear the runway, he started our takeoff roll. A moment later, I realized we were rolling without our takeoff clearance. I aborted the takeoff and called the tower. Tower issued the clearance and we continued. Returning to home base, the student and I had ground school on the different clrncs and what each means. Also, student desires to order communication tapes from a pilot magazine to enhance his communication skills.
