Narrative:

At cak, air carrier X crew members walk from air carrier X hangar across the ramp to the terminal to pick up the airplane to begin flying. We also do the same. When catching a deadhead or even to non revenue, on nov/xa/00, myself and a flight attendant (I was deadheading, she was non revenuing home) walked from the hangar to the gate to check in for a flight. When we got to the gate we were told the FAA was there and we needed to go through security, which we did. As we were returning to the gate, we were approached by an FAA inspector from cleveland FSDO who took our names and said there would be a letter sent to our company airlines. I have worked for 4 yrs. In that time, every cak based crew member has been walking across the ramp to go to work or to non revenue (a standard procedure). We have never been told not to do this -- it is a common practice. I believe an easy resolution for this is to allow crew members based in cak to get an airport identify.
