| Air Traffic Incident | Operational Error |
Narrative:
The king air was inbound to runway 18 at lit, receiver only no transmitter. The king air was cleared to land runway 18 and acknowledged the transmission by 'identing.' a diamond STAR 140 was rolling out on runway 18 and a diamond katana was waiting to depart runway 18 at taxiway K. I cleared the katana at taxiway K to taxi into position and hold. My attention was distracted by an automated pointout from the radar west controller. The controller was trying to 'point out' a lifeguard helicopter departing a hospital approximately 3 mi west of lit. The data tag of the king air was overlapped by the data tag of the helicopter. It took 2 computer entries to separate the data tags and acknowledge the 'pointout.' I then incorrectly diverted attention to sequencing a baron behind another katana inbound to runway 22R. The king air initiated a go around on his own, as the katana was still in position on runway 18 at taxiway K. I should have been more vigilant when putting an aircraft into 'position hold' especially when 1 aircraft was experiencing communications difficulty. This incident resulted in an operational error.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TWR LCL CTLR BECAME BUSY WITH OTHER TASKS AND FORGOT THAT HE HAD A DIAMOND JET HOLDING IN POS FOR TKOF AND A BEECH KING AIR, WITH NO COMS XMITTER CLRED TO LAND ON THE SAME RWY.
Narrative: THE KING AIR WAS INBOUND TO RWY 18 AT LIT, RECEIVER ONLY NO XMITTER. THE KING AIR WAS CLRED TO LAND RWY 18 AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE XMISSION BY 'IDENTING.' A DIAMOND STAR 140 WAS ROLLING OUT ON RWY 18 AND A DIAMOND KATANA WAS WAITING TO DEPART RWY 18 AT TXWY K. I CLRED THE KATANA AT TXWY K TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. MY ATTN WAS DISTRACTED BY AN AUTOMATED POINTOUT FROM THE RADAR W CTLR. THE CTLR WAS TRYING TO 'POINT OUT' A LIFEGUARD HELI DEPARTING A HOSPITAL APPROX 3 MI W OF LIT. THE DATA TAG OF THE KING AIR WAS OVERLAPPED BY THE DATA TAG OF THE HELI. IT TOOK 2 COMPUTER ENTRIES TO SEPARATE THE DATA TAGS AND ACKNOWLEDGE THE 'POINTOUT.' I THEN INCORRECTLY DIVERTED ATTN TO SEQUENCING A BARON BEHIND ANOTHER KATANA INBOUND TO RWY 22R. THE KING AIR INITIATED A GAR ON HIS OWN, AS THE KATANA WAS STILL IN POS ON RWY 18 AT TXWY K. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE VIGILANT WHEN PUTTING AN ACFT INTO 'POS HOLD' ESPECIALLY WHEN 1 ACFT WAS EXPERIENCING COMS DIFFICULTY. THIS INCIDENT RESULTED IN AN OPERROR.
