Narrative:

Received a clearance to a lower cruise altitude (I think FL310) and slow to 290 KTS. Then ATC cleared us to cross 50 NM south of slc VOR, while on a direct route to slc VOR at 17000 ft. The B767/757 FMS does not change descent page speed when a new speed is entered on cruise page -- like the MD88 does (my old aircraft). Therefore, our speed increased to 330 KTS during the descent. Passing FL240, ATC asked about our speed. After telling ATC 330 KTS, ATC cleared us to level at FL220 and slow to 280 KTS. No conflicts were noted.

Title: ACFT EXCEEDED ASSIGNED AIRSPD DURING DSCNT.

Narrative: RECEIVED A CLRNC TO A LOWER CRUISE ALT (I THINK FL310) AND SLOW TO 290 KTS. THEN ATC CLRED US TO CROSS 50 NM S OF SLC VOR, WHILE ON A DIRECT RTE TO SLC VOR AT 17000 FT. THE B767/757 FMS DOES NOT CHANGE DSCNT PAGE SPD WHEN A NEW SPD IS ENTERED ON CRUISE PAGE -- LIKE THE MD88 DOES (MY OLD ACFT). THEREFORE, OUR SPD INCREASED TO 330 KTS DURING THE DSCNT. PASSING FL240, ATC ASKED ABOUT OUR SPD. AFTER TELLING ATC 330 KTS, ATC CLRED US TO LEVEL AT FL220 AND SLOW TO 280 KTS. NO CONFLICTS WERE NOTED.
