Narrative:

On climb out from mem, ingested bird(south) into #2 engine. Engine instruments normal, engine vibration was higher than normal but still in 'green.' there was a strong burnt feather smell in the air-conditioning system. Talked to our dispatch and returned to mem. I declared an emergency just in case we did need to shut down #2 engine. Briefed passenger and flight attendants, uneventful landing followed. I had crash crew inspect engine to be sure there was no chance of fire. Engine #2 was secured after landing. Postflt inspection revealed several fan blades damaged.
