Narrative:
On downwind for ILS runway 24R at lax, crew initially smelled fumes followed by a noise and electrical annunciator lights. Aircraft was descending on the approach vector with the throttles at idle. The #1 engine egt was increasing toward red-line. The decision was made to shut down the #1 engine. An emergency was declared and all appropriate checklists completed. We received priority approach clearance and had an uneventful landing. The time lapse for this whole event was approximately 5 mins from initial indication to touchdown.
