Narrative:

Normal flight from den to stl. Pilot notification/checklist provided to me indicating a battery powered wheelchair stored in pit #3. Checklist indicates battery attached to chair, battery cables removed and terminals taped or quick disconnect plug disconnected and dangerous goods removed from chair (oxygen/mace). Upon arrival at stl, ground personnel reported battery to be arcing when they opened the pit. Chair removed from pit and returned to passenger. Appeared to work normally.

Title: B737-300 CREW HAD AN IMPROPERLY PREPARED AND LOADED BATTERY POWERED WHEELCHAIR IN THE ACFT PIT DEPARTING DEN.

Narrative: NORMAL FLT FROM DEN TO STL. PLT NOTIFICATION/CHKLIST PROVIDED TO ME INDICATING A BATTERY POWERED WHEELCHAIR STORED IN PIT #3.
