Narrative:

On departure from fci, cleared to 8000 ft. Subsequent instruction to stop at 6000 ft. 6000 ft entered in altitude preselect, but not armed, causing inadvertent climb to 6700 ft. Departure control questioned altitude at 6700. Immediately corrected to 6000 ft. Did not notice deviation due to distraction dealing with passenger.
