Narrative:

I was flight attendant #2 (galley) trying to secure carts in the aft galley. We were in moderate turbulence over detroit, according to the captain. The aft end of the cart would not swing into position. So with one hand I held the handle and with the other I reached for the aft end of the cart to push it into place. I felt a pull/pop in the lower right half of my back. The pain did not go away -- it was a kind of dull ache. When I reached, pulled, pushed, breathed and yawned, it would hurt. I informed our purser who, in turn, informed the captain. The captain filed his report, etc. I saw a doctor the next day, was removed from work, and now am in physical therapy to strengthen it again. Our older carts are hard to steer and handle. They feel heavy because of the load and/or the wheels not always working properly. We are in the process of getting some new ones. The turbulence made it that much worse.
