Narrative:

Leveling at 10000 ft during climb out on vectors to the worth three departure. Departure controller called out 12 O'clock position traffic at 11000 ft. We both started looking for the traffic and I failed to engage altitude hold at 10000 ft. The TCASII (TA) alerted. I realized we were still climbing and both the controller and the sic called out the deviation all at the same time. I hurried back to 10000 ft. The deviation was 300 ft or less. We had the traffic in sight by the time and there was no 'close encounter.'
