Narrative:

Departed runway 13R at jfk and received clearance to climb to 9000 ft on an assigned heading (approximately 240 degrees). ATC called out navajo traffic at 12 O'clock and 9500 ft, less than 5 mi. During leveloff at 9000 ft, we received an RA to descend. Descended to approximately 8500 ft until TCASII called clear of conflict. ATC advised that we did not need to descend. We advised we were following an RA and were climbing back to 9000 ft. ATC cleared us to 11000 ft. Supplemental information from acn 486807: a corrective solution would be to not ascend fast jets under other VFR traffic -- or for that matter, IFR traffic.
