Narrative:

Our clearance was the hobby 2 as filed. When cleared for takeoff, the captain read back 'cleared for takeoff, runway 12R left to 120 degrees.' runway heading for runway 12 is 129 degrees. Shortly after takeoff, tower advised to tighten turn to 320 degrees or 330 degrees. Tower then asked if we were aware of the restr to complete all turns within 3 mi of hobby VOR. Tower obviously wanted a left turn to the north after takeoff, but that is not what was understood or read back. I recommend that if tight turns are required immediately after takeoff because of airspace restrs, those turns should be given by clearance delivery or printed on a SID instead of issued by tower with the takeoff clearance.

Title: TRACK DEV ON DEP FROM HOUSTON, TX.

Narrative: OUR CLRNC WAS THE HOBBY 2 AS FILED. WHEN CLRED FOR TKOF, THE CAPT READ BACK 'CLRED FOR TKOF, RWY 12R L TO 120 DEGS.' RWY HDG FOR RWY 12 IS 129 DEGS. SHORTLY AFTER TKOF, TWR ADVISED TO TIGHTEN TURN TO 320 DEGS OR 330 DEGS. TWR THEN ASKED IF WE WERE AWARE OF THE RESTR TO COMPLETE ALL TURNS WITHIN 3 MI OF HOBBY VOR. TWR OBVIOUSLY WANTED A L TURN TO THE N AFTER TKOF, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT WAS UNDERSTOOD OR READ BACK. I RECOMMEND THAT IF TIGHT TURNS ARE REQUIRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF BECAUSE OF AIRSPACE RESTRS, THOSE TURNS SHOULD BE GIVEN BY CLRNC DELIVERY OR PRINTED ON A SID INSTEAD OF ISSUED BY TWR WITH THE TKOF CLRNC.
