Narrative:

I was cleared for takeoff on runway 21L at dtw with a right turn on 260 degrees. I departed on runway 21L and promptly turned right to 260 degree heading before switching to departure. I overheard tower clear a jet MD80 (I think) for takeoff on runway 21R. I heard MD80 pilot report near midair collision on departure frequency and observed MD80 below and behind my position. Departure then called me and checked on my assigned heading.
