Narrative:
Was instructed to fly left hand base for runway 36, report on 2 mi final. Upon reaching the 2 mi fix I attempted to contact the tower and the radio transmitter appeared to malfunction. I have 2 navigation communications onboard. Switched from headset to hand microphone as well as switching radios to no available. As I was then over the threshold, I opted to land. There was no other aircraft using the aforementioned runway. The tower cleared me to parking by keying my microphone. Additionally when I encountered the problem I transmitted in the blind and requested a green light which I thought I got but apparently not. Per remarks from the tower who stated I should have climbed to traffic pattern altitude and then looked for a green light. As I considered this an emergency I thought landing was a lot safer than going around and mixing with other traffic using other runways. The avionics is being tested as I write this, and when on the ground I tested the avionics with a hand held and everything was satisfactory.

Title: PLT OF AN SEL SMA LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC AFTER EXPERIENCING COM RADIO LOSS ON FINAL SINCE IN HIS JUDGEMENT OF TFC IT WAS THE SAFER THING TO DO.
Narrative: WAS INSTRUCTED TO FLY L HAND BASE FOR RWY 36, RPT ON 2 MI FINAL. UPON REACHING THE 2 MI FIX I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE TWR AND THE RADIO XMITTER APPEARED TO MALFUNCTION. I HAVE 2 NAV COMS ONBOARD. SWITCHED FROM HEADSET TO HAND MIKE AS WELL AS SWITCHING RADIOS TO NO AVAILABLE. AS I WAS THEN OVER THE THRESHOLD, I OPTED TO LAND. THERE WAS NO OTHER ACFT USING THE AFOREMENTIONED RWY. THE TWR CLRED ME TO PARKING BY KEYING MY MIKE. ADDITIONALLY WHEN I ENCOUNTERED THE PROB I XMITTED IN THE BLIND AND REQUESTED A GREEN LIGHT WHICH I THOUGHT I GOT BUT APPARENTLY NOT. PER REMARKS FROM THE TWR WHO STATED I SHOULD HAVE CLBED TO TFC PATTERN ALT AND THEN LOOKED FOR A GREEN LIGHT. AS I CONSIDERED THIS AN EMER I THOUGHT LNDG WAS A LOT SAFER THAN GOING AROUND AND MIXING WITH OTHER TFC USING OTHER RWYS. THE AVIONICS IS BEING TESTED AS I WRITE THIS, AND WHEN ON THE GND I TESTED THE AVIONICS WITH A HAND HELD AND EVERYTHING WAS SATISFACTORY.
