Narrative:

Having flown only once before into fat when runway 29R threshold was displaced, I knew the displaced threshold was somewhere close to where taxiway F intersects the runway. Flying visually, without vertical guidance and after having briefed the crew that I intended to land as close as possible to the displaced threshold, I made a normal touchdown past the painted arrows just prior to intersection F. Upon taxi back, we noticed the unlit 4 ft by 4 ft boards on the ground outside of the runway and realized we touched down approximately 300 ft short. The new concrete poured looks somewhat like poorly painted touchdown marking. Also, there are orange cones on the runway, but they are down by the painted arrows/line. No comment from ATC.

Title: A DC8-63 FREIGHTER LNDG AT FAT, CA, RPTS LNDG SHORT OF THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD BECAUSE OF POORLY DISPLAYED RWY MARKINGS.

Narrative: HAVING FLOWN ONLY ONCE BEFORE INTO FAT WHEN RWY 29R THRESHOLD WAS DISPLACED, I KNEW THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD WAS SOMEWHERE CLOSE TO WHERE TXWY F INTERSECTS THE RWY. FLYING VISUALLY, WITHOUT VERT GUIDANCE AND AFTER HAVING BRIEFED THE CREW THAT I INTENDED TO LAND AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD, I MADE A NORMAL TOUCHDOWN PAST THE PAINTED ARROWS JUST PRIOR TO INTXN F. UPON TAXI BACK, WE NOTICED THE UNLIT 4 FT BY 4 FT BOARDS ON THE GND OUTSIDE OF THE RWY AND REALIZED WE TOUCHED DOWN APPROX 300 FT SHORT. THE NEW CONCRETE POURED LOOKS SOMEWHAT LIKE POORLY PAINTED TOUCHDOWN MARKING. ALSO, THERE ARE ORANGE CONES ON THE RWY, BUT THEY ARE DOWN BY THE PAINTED ARROWS/LINE. NO COMMENT FROM ATC.
