Narrative:
I was at 9500 ft MSL and descended through a hole in the cloud cover. Once underneath I was following the 5 freeway sbound when I came to the newhall pass that was blocked off by cloud so I turned around and was blocked in behind me, also I could no longer find the hole I went through so I declared an emergency and landed in a field. Everything went fine. No damage and was able to fly the plane out 2 days later. The definite cause of this was 'get there itis.' I should have landed in bakersfield and not continued. Part of the problem is also when you get a WX brief, they almost never say VFR recommended, which leads me to disregard the statement somewhat. I regularly find none of the problems they say, ever exist. It is still my fault, but we should try to be a little more realistic with our descriptions of how bad the WX really is. I am thinking about taking a class on WX so I can better understand WX itself.
